Letter from the Archbishop of Denver
My Dear Brothers:
As Archbishop of Denver, I am constantly encouraging young men to prayerfully consider if God is calling them to be His priests. Do not be afraid to ask this vital question. You may have thought of being a priest more than a few times; others of you may now be considering the priesthood for the first time. If you open yourself to the possibility, Jesus will make it clear to you if you should be a priest. I have found the priesthood to be a deeply meaningful and joyful life. I cannot imagine why a young man would not consider the priestly life.
No one is "worthy" of being a priest, but God calls us regardless of our sins and imperfections to follow Him. The Church in northern Colorado needs many more priests to preach the Good News of Jesus and to bring people to personal encounters with Christ through the sacraments.
During his 1993 visit to Denver, the Pope challenged young people of the world by saying: "This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is the time to preach it from the rooftops. Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge of making Christ known."
I encourage you to listen to the voice of Jesus, to follow him as His priest, and change the world!
Your brother in Christ,

Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.
Archbishop of Denver
